Aeschynanthus 'Firecracker'

I received this plant directly from the hybridizer, Bill Saylor, as a single cutting. It thrived while suspended beneath bright flourescent lighting, and produced this basket within about 18 months.

'Firecracker' is a hybrid of A. micranthus and A. parviflorus, and is intermediate in form between these parents. The medium-red flowers are produced freely, but mainly in the fall and winter when grown in natural light. Under flourescents, flowering is constant and liberal, but without the great flush of bloom produced by a seasonal response.
