C. lavandulacea is an upright-growing annual species native to tropical Asia. After flowering and producing seed, it will typically die. Consequently, it is normally propagated only from seed.
Mr. Okuto reports that this species, like C. elphinstonia and C. micromusa, will produce flowers very early in its growth cycle if grown under short-day conditions. Another annual is an unnamed species from Phuket.
