C. elphinstonia is a member of the Chirita group that is generally upright in stature, and that dies after growing for a season, flowering and setting seed. It is native to tropical Asia.
Mr. Okuto reports that like C. lavandulacea and C. micromusa, this species will produce flowers after having produced very few leaves, if grown under short-day conditions. Another annual is an unnamed species from Phuket.
