C. s. var. angustifolia is one of the Chirita species that exhibits a characteristic silver and dark green pattern on the leaves. Often grown as foliage plants, the flowers of some of the cultivars are produced in sufficient quantity, and are sufficiently attractive, to warrant showing as flowering plants. Another photo shows a plant mounted on a slab of tree fern. A more recent photo, of a plant shown at the Toronto Gesneriad Society show in spring of 2004, nicely illustates the elegant coloration and habit of the variant.
