Chrysothemis pulchella 'Copper Leaf'
Chrysothemis pulchella is a tropical American species which comes in two variants. The 'Copper Leaf' form has bronzy leaves, the result of significant amounts of red pigment underlying the basic bright green. The green leaf form has bright green leaves. Both have yellow flowers with orange markings, emerging from persistent orange calyces. The calyx is decorative, and for show purposes is therefore allowed to remain on the plant after the flower has faded and been removed. A bed of this plant, in a greenhouse, can be seen here, and an antique print of the species here.
