The berry on this species is "presented" in a way that suggests its likely use as a food source which supports the seed distribution -- it is displayed at the center of a red and white calyx arrangement.  Another photo shows how a large number of these display fruits can create quite a display.  A plant in flower can be seen here, and another display fruit on an Alloplectus species here.
