Cyrilla pulchella
Curtis, 1797
This species is now known as Achimenes erecta. The hand-colored print is one of the very first illustrations of a Gesneriad, the oldest of those shown on this website. There is a clear print impression, which does not show up well on the scan. The flower color was originally bright red, but the paint has apparenlty oxidized to a muddy reddish brown. Another copy of this print, shown here, has retained the bright red color, and is true to the color of the real flowers.
