Kohleria bogotensis

Grown at Smithsonian Institution greenhouses

A closeup of  the flowers can be seen by clicking here.   A hybrid of this species with K. warszewiczii shows the potential of work with the lesser known species.  A recent revision of Kohleria by Kvist and Skog placed this species with Kohleria amabalis, as a variety, i.e. K. amabalis var. bogotensis.

Note the dark leaves with a silvery pattern.  Mr. Boggan has been hybridizing from this species in order to produce manageable plants with this pattern, along with bright floers.  Kohleria 'Silver Feather' is one of the results of this work.
