Saintpaulia orbicularis var. purpurea

The genus Saintpaulia has many fine species, as well as the thousands of modern hybrids popularly known as "African Violets". The genus originates in southeastern Africa, and may still be found in the wild, although disappearing habitat threatens many species.  Other photos can be seen here, here and here.
