This cultivar was widely distributed (as plants and a seedline) in the late 1970s and early 1980s. There continues to be some dispute as to whether it is a natural form of the species, or a hybrid. Seeds produced through selfing produced uniform seedlings, as do species, but there is no record of the form being seen in the wild. In addition to the delicately coloured flower, the leaves are a brighter green than in most other forms of the species.
This form of the species (or this cultivar, depending on your point of view) was crossed with a pure white form to produce the intermediate hybrid S. 'Pale Beauty'.
