This dramatically blue-toned flower is very different from the more usual reds, yellows, oranges and whites of most Smithianthas. S. laui is also said to have among the best foliage in the genus, with red hairs on the leaves providing an overall red plush effect in strong light (in weak light, the leaves are more plain green). Other photos on the site (here and here) show the flowers as more pink than blue -- the blue tone here is accurate relative to the real color of this plant.
Grown from seed distributed as GRF 9117.
