S. fanninae is one of the few Streptocarpus species with distinct spotting in the throat.  It is also unusual for other reasons -- it is distinctly honey-scented, and has unique spreading rhizomes, from which the leaves arise directly, with no conventional stem.   The leaves can be as long as 60 cm (25 in), with the flowers held on stems just as long.
